Supersedes: UCLA DA 710.04 (Approving the Transporting of Firearms on Campus) to Chief Ross, dated October 8, 2008.

Effective as of the date above, I hereby delegate to you, within your area of responsibility, the authority to grant permission to any person, including a student, faculty member, employee or visitor, when circumstances warrant, to transport a firearm on campus or on campus property that is not contiguous to the Westwood campus (non-contiguous campus property). No person, except duly appointed peace officers and certain other specified persons shall bring a firearm on the UCLA campus or on non-contiguous campus property without your prior written approval.

California Penal Code provides that any person who brings a loaded or unloaded firearm upon the grounds of a public or private university or college or non-contiguous property thereof shall be punished in the state prison (see sections 626.9(h) and (i) for details). Also, a university or college shall post a prominent notice at primary entrances on non-contiguous property stating that firearms are prohibited on that property pursuant to this subdivision.

This delegation is being reissued due to an organization change and there are no substantive changes to the delegation being superseded.

You may designate an alternate signatory with the authority to grant permission as specified above but only in your absence and pursuant to the provisions of the UC Universitywide Police Policies and Administrative Procedures concerning chain of command. There may be no redelegation of your authority beyond this.
