Effective as of the date above, I hereby delegate to you, as Vice Chancellor for Research, the authority to act as the Institutional Official for ongoing oversight of the Animal Care and Use Program at UCLA, in accordance with the provisions of University and campus policies and all applicable federal and State laws. This delegation affirms the duties and responsibilities which you have been exercising at the behest of the Chancellor.

As Vice Chancellor for Research and Institutional Official, your responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to:

  • service as the signatory Institutional Official for UCLA's Animal Welfare Assurance with the National Institutes of Health/Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (NIH/OLAW) and other applicable assurances;

  • the overall administrative responsibility for developing and maintaining an effective, integrated campus-wide animal care and use program to ensure that all humane, ethical and legal requirements are met;

  • appointing the members of the Chancellor's Animal Research Committee (ARC);

  • reviewing records of semiannual ARC reports and recommendations, and submitting annual reports regarding the animal care and use program to NIH/OLAW.
This authority may not be further redelegated.
